This page is a sort of repository of information that we thought might be of interest to the craftsman and/or old tool enthusiast. Here you'll find links to other tool and woodworking related sites, tool catalogs, ads, copies of tool patents, and other articles of interest. This information is for educational purposes only. All brand names, service marks, and trademarks referenced or used herein are the property of their respective owners.

Please note that many of the diagrams and image files on this page are quite large. Much of the information here consists of images that were scanned. Therefore we've done our best to balance file size against resolution/readability. If you have a slow dial-up connection, pack a lunch. Don't say we didn't warn you.

In the early part of the 20th century, the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. marketed a line of tools sold exclusively at selected hardware stores know as the Winchester Stores. Winchester tools are now prized by collectors. Click here to view the Winchester Pocket Catalog of Tools from 1924.

One of the greatest tools ever made, certainly our favorite chisels, are the Stanley Everlasting Chisels. Click to view an 8 page brochure that extolls the virtues of these exceptional tools. Think about it - How much would it cost to make these today? Seriously, $100 each? Go to Ebay and buy every one that you can find. These chisels are a bargain at any price.

Often, when researching a tool, we find that the original patent is an invaluable source of information. Here are a few of the important or interesting patents and patent drawings for tools and for items that have been for sale on this site at one time or another.

A while ago I acquired a set of vintage screw boxes (wood threaders) and tried to make some hand screws with disastrous results. I put them away and forgot about them until I found this tremendous article that explains everything you'd ever want or need to know about threading wood. Super.

A Millers Falls Page

A Millers Falls Page by Randy Roeder - This page serves as the central directory for a study of the tools manufactured by the Millers Falls Company during the time that it was located in Massachusetts. Featured are a company history, guides to some of the hand- powered tools and a guide to some of the publications produced by the manufacturer. This is a very nicely done, informative site.
